Caldwell Fiscal Court Approves Bids for Road Department and Emergency Management

Caldwell County Fiscal Court approved several bids for the road department and emergency management during its Tuesday morning meeting.

Judge-Executive Kota Young announced that only one bid had been received for the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program generators. Before making any decisions on the bid, Caldwell County Emergency Management Director Joey McCaslin provided details about the generators.

click to download audioThe magistrates unanimously accepted the bid of approximately $472,378 from Twin Lakes Electric, with a local contribution of around $24,574.

In other new business, Judge Young mentioned that three bids had been received for the expansion of the fencing at the current road department garage. He suggested accepting the lowest bid of $12,200 from Lake City Fence & Welding, which was approved unanimously.

Judge Young also mentioned that the county is investing in new equipment for the Caldwell County Road Department. Road Supervisor David Waldrum explained that the bids are for the acquisition of a cold planer and hot box equipment.

The magistrates accepted the bid for the cold planer from Boyd CAT for approximately $33,078 and the bid for the hot box from Seal Master for around $38,995.

In other new business, the Fiscal Court approved a check from the County Clerk’s Annual Settlement for Calendar Year 2023 of $109,152.

Judge Young introduced the second reading of the ordinance establishing the Caldwell County Review Board, which will be responsible for reviewing solar licenses and renewal licenses. The Board will be comprised of seven members.

Judge Young also noted that they were able to submit a grant application to the Kentucky Office of Homeland Security for the procurement of mobile radios following a special called meeting on Friday.
