A Princeton man who escaped from the local jail in April and was captured in Lyon County after a crime spree was among several indictments issued by the Caldwell County Grand Jury this month.

The grand jury issued two separate indictments on Gregory Munsell, of Princeton. He was charged with burglary, theft by unlawful taking $1,000 or more – auto, theft/receipt of stolen credit/debit card, and persistent felony offender.

The second indictment charges Munsell with escape and persistent felony offender.

The charges stem from April 12 when Munsell was furloughed to a rehab/treatment facility and was to report to the Caldwell County Jail upon completion or termination from the facility. Police said he arrived at the jail and was waiting to be processed when he ran out the front door and didn’t come back. Police obtained a warrant for Munsell charging him with escape.

Two days later, Assistant Police Chief Shane Allison said officers responded to a residence near the 600 block of North Jefferson Street for a burglary and auto theft. He says the investigation revealed that someone had entered the victim’s home, stolen her purse and keys, and then stole the victim’s vehicle.

Allison reported that on April 15th Princeton Police were contacted by the McCracken County Sheriff’s Office that the stolen vehicle had been recovered on Ogden Landing Road and a witness identified Munsell as the person who abandoned the car. However, McCracken County authorities were unable to locate Munsell in the area.

Munsell is also accused of stealing another vehicle in McCracken County. The McCracken County Sheriff’s Office also said detectives discovered video evidence where Munsell had used the credit cards stolen from the North Jefferson Street victim.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office reported that Munsell was arrested on multiple warrants on April 20 while in a Kuttawa business, including the initial warrant out of Caldwell County charging him with escape.
