Investigators with the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife say a hunter died in Caldwell County last week after the tree stand he was in malfunctioned.

Neil Richards with Fish and Wildlife says 43-year-old Shane Robinson of Mississippi was in the tree stand off US62 in Caldwell County when the stand he was in malfunctioned and he fell.

According to reports Robinson had gone hunting with a friend when they split up on Wednesday night. The friend told investigators that they were supposed to meet up later but he never heard from Robinson, prompting him to search for his friend. When the friend found Robinson he discovered that he was dead.

Richards is reminding hunters to check their straps and wear a climbing harness when using tree stands.
