Caldwell County Board of Education meeting, April 16, 2018
The Caldwell County Board of Education met in regular session Monday night at the Caldwell County Primary School.
After Board Chairman Mike Traylor called the meeting to order the board approved the consented agenda items including, the minutes from the regular meeting on March 19th, the approval to pay bills and salaries when due, four overnight trips, and two out of state trips. The board then unanimously approved four ‘use of facilities’ requests.
The board then discussed and approved the following items: an educational trip for the Class of 2024 to Washington DC during Spring Break 2019; ‘Penny Wars’ as a school wide fundraiser at CCPS and CCES in April; CCMS athletic bids for 2018-2019; a request for a fee of $200 from CCHS Cheerleader Sponsor Audrey Bartolotti; a request for a fee of $200 for CCHS Band Director Daniel Thomas; custodial bids for June 1, 2018 through May 31, 2019; the revised 2018-2019 Certified Evaluation Plan; the purchase of a new telephone system; 2018-2019 student insurance bids; the certified staffing request for 2018-2019; the classified staffing request for 2018-2019; and the extra service staffing request for 2018-2019. All staffing requests for the 2018-2019 school year were approved on a “ranges” basis as opposed to exact figures to allow flexibility when concrete budget guidance comes from Frankfort. The board is still uncertain on how they will be affected by legislation happening in the state’s capitol.
The board then received written reports from the school’s principals, Gifted and Talented, and the SBDM Council. The board then acknowledged personnel action taken since the last board meeting.
The board, and those assembled, then took some to pay tribute to Interim Superintendent Randy McCarty, who will end his time in Caldwell County on June 30th. Superintendent McCarty received a standing ovation and much praise from those in attendance. Nathan Huggins will begin his term as Caldwell County Superintendent on July 1st. Huggins was selected as the district’s new superintendent during a special called meeting in February.
Chairman Traylor then called for a motion to adjourn and after a motion and a second the meeting adjourned. The next regular session Caldwell County Board of Education meeting will be held on May 21st and is open to the public.
