George Kilgore, Wesley Curtis, Roy Gene Rogers in studio for Optimist Club Radio Auction, March 5, 2018
George Kilgore, Wesley Curtis, and Roy Gene Rogers were in studio Monday morning to talk to WPKY about the upcoming Princeton Optimist Club Radio Auction.
The 47th Annual Radio Auction will be held from March 19th through the 23rd at the Butler Gym in downtown Princeton. WPKY will be on the air broadcasting the auction from 5:30 to 10PM each evening. All funds raised will be used by the Optimist Club to help youth in the community. Not only does the Optimist Club provide several four year scholarships to graduating seniors, they also provide monetary support to youth to participate in sporting events, such as the Caldwell County Special Olympics team. They also donate funds to Read Across America every year as well.
Not only will there be the radio auction, a “Country Store” will also be set up in the Butler Gym. Roy Gene told listeners that he is looking for people to bring baked goods, art pieces like woodworking, and more to be included in the “Country Store.” People will be able to drop by the Butler Gym and browse the store while the auction is going on. George then said that local and area businesses have already donated many items for the auction, but more items are always wanted. If any business is interested in donating items they can be dropped off at WPKY, located on West Main Street in Princeton.
George told listeners that they will also be accepting Good Ol’ Goat donations during the auction as well. A Good Ol’ Goat is a donation of $25, a Silver Goat is a donation of $50, and a Golden Goat is a donation of $100 and all donations will go directly to the Optimist Club’s scholarship fund.
George also mentioned that they are still looking for groups to come in and use the concession stand during the auction. On Tuesday the First Baptist Youth Group will be set up selling food and on Friday Big John’s BBQ will be there. Non-profit groups that are interested can use this as a fundraiser and will be able to keep all money that they collect. Any for-profit business interested will merely be asked to make a donation to the Princeton Optimist Club based on their good will and earnings from the night. Anyone interested can contact George at 270-625-3427, Roy Gene at 270-625-8774, or Wesley at 270-625-3512.
George also wanted to thank the Princeton Kiwanis Club for their involvement this year, they have stepped up and offered to help gather donated items and provide more volunteers during the auction.
The Princeton Optimist Club Radio Auction will be March 19th through 23rd out at the Butler Gym and live on air at WPKY 103.3FM/1580AM from 5:30 to 10PM each evening. This year there will only be one number to remember, 270-365-5866. However the line will be split into four lines, so don’t hesitate to call in to place a bid, someone will be able to get your call.
