High voter turnout caused some concern over the ability to cast a vote on Tuesday.
Caldwell County Clerk Toni Watson says that her office had only ordered paper ballots for at least fifty percent of registered voters in each precinct but turnout was much higher than they expected.
Clerk Watson assured voters that everyone would get a chance to vote. Each polling station had e-slate electronic voting machines that would tabulate votes electronically.
Voter turnout was so high that not only did some voters have to wait in lines, by the time the polls closed at six, several precincts had just a few paper ballots left. Clerk Watson estimates voter turnout to be just over 50 percent. The highest it’s been in last six elections.
Everyone was still able to cast their vote.
