Joni Phelps, EFNAP Agent at the UK Extension Office, was in studio Wednesday morning for WPKY’s weekly Extension Program.
Joni first told listeners about the upcoming Recipe Review on Tuesday, August 21st, from 11:30AM to 12:30PM at the UK Extension Office, located on Highway 62 West in Princeton. This event is free and come-and-go and set up for participants to taste test new recipes and give their feedback. This month’s recipes are Farmers Market Salsa and Farmers Market Summer Squash. While the event is free, registration is required so they know how much to prepare. To register call the Extension Office at 270-365-2787. There will also be a Recipe Review at the George Coon Public Library on Monday, August 27th. Registration is not required to be a taste tester at the library and they will have the same recipes as the one at the Extension Office.
Joni then told listeners about the next Cooking with Joni workshop on Thursday, August 23rd at 11:30PM at the Extension Office. Participants will learn to cook quick and easy meals as well as technical cooking skills and food safety. The workshop is free and open to the public but you must register by August 22nd and can do so by calling the Extension Office.
Joni then shifted gears a bit to remind listeners about the Feeding God’s Children Backpack Program that supplies easy-to-prepare meals to students during the school year who might otherwise go hungry. Joni stated that they currently have enough funds to provide meals for the entire year for 80 students but that she is hoping they will get enough funds to be able to feed 100 to 120 students. It costs $120 per student per year and donations can be made by calling Joni at the Extension Office at 270-365-2787. Even if you can not donate the full $120, donations of any monetary amount, or even food items, are greatly appreciated.
