Maggie Gammon, owner of The Cat’s Tale Used Book store, was in studio Monday morning to talk to WPKY about her book store and services she offers through the store.

Maggie opened the store, located at 207 West Main Street in Princeton, in August 2016 but had been chasing the dream of owning a used book store for 20 to 30 years. She started out as a book collector and after several years of hard work, she and her husband, Darrell, opened the store using mostly her collection of books. The store has a stock of several different genres including mysteries, fiction, non-fiction, history, biographies, and more.

Maggie then mentioned that her store does have two cats that live there, Piewacket and Jenny Linsky. Both are black cats that love visiting with customers who stop by. Piewacket, who came to Maggie on Halloween, is named after the witch’s cat in the 1958 film, “Bell Book and Candle,” which starred James Stewart and Kim Novak. Jenny Linsky is named after a character in a series of children’s books, “Jenny and the Cat Club” by Esther Averill.

Maggie then said that if she doesn’t have a particular book in the store she does offer a search service to find whichever book you’re looking for. She’ll also keep an eye out for it in the books that come into the store. She then told listeners that while she’s not currently buying books she is offering trade in credit dollar for dollar. Which means if you have $10 of credit and buy $10 worth of books, all she’ll collect is the tax. She also carries several copies of books from local authors and even holds signings with the authors.

The Cat’s Tale Used Book Store is open from 11AM to 5PM Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday through Saturday, closed Sunday and Wednesday. You can always call the store at 270-625-9123 for more information.
