Pastor John Hagen, from Calvary Baptist Church, and Jr. Wade, Elvis tribute artist, were in studio Thursday morning to talk to WPKY about the upcoming World Vision “Global 6K for Water” fundraising event.

Pastor Hagen told listeners that Calvary Baptist Church will be hosting the “Global 6K for Water” for the second year on May 12th from 9AM to noon at the Caldwell County High School track in Princeton. Pastor Hagen stated that 6 kilometers is the average distance a child, man, or woman, in a developing country walks everyday to get their daily water, whether the water is clean or not, and in most cases it’s not. Participants will walk that average of 6 kilometers, or about 3.7 miles, to raise money to provide clean water for children and their families through the organization, World Vision.

World Vision is an organization whose main focus is to bring clean water to those children and families in developing countries by digging wells in villages and towns. They’re able to do this through programs like the “Global 6K for Water,” which provides clean water for a child, and their family, for the remainder of their lives. A $50 registration fee is all that’s needed to sponsor access to clean water for one child and their family for the remainder of their lives. A $25 registration fee for a child 18 and under also goes toward sponsoring clean water. Pastor Hagen then stated that thanks to many large corporations ten dollars has been taken off the registration fee until Easter Sunday in honor of World Water Day. So, until Easter Sunday, April 1st, adult registration is only $40 and children’s registration is only $15. Registration includes a t-shirt, a race bib with a picture of a sponsored child, and a medal for finishing the challenge.

Pastor Hagen then mentioned that 85% of all proceeds that World Vision collects go to provide clean water and other programs that help provide for the needs of children in developing countries. Their other main fundraiser is sponsorship of a child for $39 a month, this provides the child with clean water, food, access to education, and more until they’re 18 years old.

Last year the global event had over 28,000 participants and provided over 34,000 children with clean water. Last year the local event was able to provide clean water for over 70 children and their families and Pastor Hagen is hoping for more turnout this year. Check-in registration will begin at 8:30AM on Saturday, May 12th, and everyone who registers will be entered to win prizes from area businesses. Pastor Hagen said that if any area business is interested in donating they can contact him at 270-994-6861.

There will also be a fundraiser before the “Global 6K for Water” on April 21st at Calvary Baptist Church’s Family Life Center, located at 121 Kentucky Avenue in Princeton. Jr. Wade will be performing a tribute to Elvis starting at 6PM. There is no admission fee, however donations will be taken at the door to go towards “Global 6K for Water.” They will also be selling concessions on a donation basis for the cause. Those interested will also be able to register for the 6K that night, but Paster Hagen implored people to register before then. Registration can be found on Calvary’s website and on their Facebook page. You can also find the registration link here.

Pastor Hagen then quickly mentioned their special Easter services on Easter Sunday, April 1st. They will have a Sonrise Service starting at 7AM, with a church-wide breakfast to follow, then Sunday School at 9:30AM, followed by their regular Morning Worship Service at 10:30AM. There will also be an Easter Egg Hunt for children following the morning service. All in the community are invited to attend Easter services, as well as their normal services. Sunday School is at 9:30AM, Morning Worship is at 10:30AM, Evening Worship is at 5PM, and Wednesday Night Bible Study is at 6:30PM. The church offers Children’s Church and youth groups as well.
