Princeton can now officially begin searching for a second School Resource Officer for Caldwell County Schools.

The Princeton City Council voted five to one to approve an ordinance amending the Personnel Pay Plan to establish a second SRO position at a regular session meeting Monday night. The Council also voted five to one to approve a budget amendment to allow for the hiring of a second SRO.

The city was recently awarded $80,000 over the next two school years to help fund a second SRO by the Caldwell County Hospital Taxing District Board following the taxing district’s dissolution. The funds will not be available to the city until after a 30 day public viewing of the document in Caldwell County Judge Executive Ellen Dunning’s office. The public viewing began on September 17th. The City will receive $40,000 for this school year.

The Caldwell County School Board will add $10,000 towards the second SRO’s salary.

Councilmember Alyson VanHooser voted against the ordinances on the grounds that the City still has not determined how to pay the remaining salary needed for the position.
