Rhonda Jewell, Caldwell County 4-H Agent at the UK Extension Office, was in studio Wednesday morning for WPKY’s weekly Extension Program.

Rhonda started off by reminding listeners that the deadline to sign up for Cloverbud Camp is Thursday, May 3rd. The weekend long camp is geared for ages 5 to 8 with a parental guardian and will be the first weekend in June. Cost is $120 per camper and will cover all expenses during camp. Rhonda then stated that Friday, May 4th, is the deadline to sign up for the Teen Conference during the second week of June. Teen Conference is for those in 9th through 12th grades and students will attend classes, eat, and stay on the University of Kentucky campus for the entire program. New this year, students will choose a “major” and will take classes dealing with that subject. For more information or to sign up, please call the Extension Office.

Rhonda also mentioned that there will be a Middle School Achievement Workshop on Tuesday, May 8th at 3:30PM for those in 4-H who have participated in the State Fair, in-school clubs, livestock judging, 4-H Camp, etc.. Students will begin to fill out a spreadsheet of all the things they’ve done with the 4-H as a sort of ongoing resume that will help them collect points and work their way towards bronze, silver, gold, and emerald levels.

Rhonda then stated that there will be two Camper Orientations for those going to 4-H Camp on Saturday, May 12th, and Monday, May 14th at the Extension Office. All campers must attend one of the camper orientations, even if they have attended camp in the past. There will also be a Volunteer Orientation for all adult volunteers attending camp on Tuesday, May 15th at the Lee S. Jones Park in Eddyville. Rhonda did mention that currently all beds are full for 4-H Camp in June, but that she is still taking students for the waiting list. Rhonda also told listeners that the deadline for students in 6th through 12th grades to sign up for Aerospace Camp in Madisonville is Wednesday, May 16th. Camp will be on Friday, June 22nd and cost is $115, which will cover all expenses. Students will learn how to fill out flight log books, will learn how to fly a plane, and will learn about science and space. For more information feel free to call the Extension Office.

Rhonda then said that there will be a car wash on Saturday, May 19th from 9AM to 1PM at Taco John’s to raise funds for the livestock judging team to be used for trips to prepare for the state judging competition.
