Rhonda Jewell, 4-H Agent at the UK Extension Office, was in studio Wednesday morning for the weekly Extension Program.

Rhonda reminded listeners of the Fantastic Friday school supply give away on Friday, July 28th, from 8 to 11am at the Caldwell County Elementary School Gym. The event is for students pre-school through 12th grades and is open to any and everyone, no registration required.

Rhonda then spoke about the upcoming Laugh & Learn Preschool Playdates event on August 18th at the UK Extension Office located on highway 62 West in Princeton. The program will be based around the eclipse and space and is open for ages 5 and under with a parent or guardian. The event is free, but you do have to register, and you can do so by calling 270-365-2787.

Rhonda then mentioned that the 4-H kids involved in 4-H Country Ham judging will be picking out their hams at Broadbent on August 4th and will then use those hams to compete at the Kentucky State Fair on August 17th. Those competing will give a prepared speech while their hams are being judged; sixty percent of their score will come from the speech and forty percent will come from the ham. Competitors can then win in three different categories: speech, ham, and overall.

Rhonda then gave a heads up about a program that will be starting in September called “#adulting.” It will be a series of classes for young adults (or anyone interested) to learn life skills. Classes include: Cars 101, which includes changing oil and changing a tire, Cooking 101, Laundry/Cleaning 101, Money 101, Getting Organized, Sewing 101, Being a Nice Person, and Being a Good Employee. The Extension Office will be releasing more information as the classes get closer, so keep an eye out on their social media pages and keep listening to WPKY during our weekly Extension Program to hear more about the program.
