Shane Bogle, Agent for Agriculture and Natural Resources at the UK Extension Office, was in studio Wednesday morning for WKPY’s weekly Extension Program.

Shane first reminded listeners that the last chance to get a Private Applicator card is during the training on Monday, February 19th at 8AM and 6PM at the UK Extension Office located on Highway 62 West in Princeton. If anyone is interested in attending the training you must register by Friday, and can do so by calling the Extension Office at 270-365-2787.

Shane then told listeners about the upcoming Tobacco Production Update to be held on Thursday, March 1st at the Trigg County Recreation Complex in Cadiz. Registration will begin at 6PM and then Dr. Edwin Ritchey, UK Extension Soil Specialist, will speak on tobacco fertility, followed by Dr. Andy Bailey, UK/UT Extension Tobacco Specialist, who will give the tobacco production update and will lead the GAP Training. Shane also told listeners about the upcoming Hands-On Fruit Tree Pruning Workshop to be held on Monday, March 5th, starting at 10AM, at 2500 Shady Grove Road in Princeton. Daniel Becker, UK Extension Associate for Fruit and Vegetable Production from the University of Kentucky Horticulture Department will be the guest speaker and will lead all of the hands-on demonstrations for the workshop. Shane then told listeners of the Mid-South Stocker Conference on Wednesday, March 7th at the Logan County Extension Office in Russellville. Registration begins at 8AM and includes lectures on accessing international markets, alternative forage options for stockers, confinement cattle housing considerations, mineral supplementation, managing health disorders in feeder calves, and more. The conference will be an all day event and will include a trade show. You can get more information about the conference by calling the Extension Office or googling Mid-South Stocker Conference.

Lastly, Shane told listeners about the upcoming 2018 Kentucky Fencing School on March 20th at the UK Research and Education Center in Princeton. Registration will begin at 8AM and will cover topics such as Kentucky Fence Law, fence economics, construction basics, electric fence basics, a hands-on building portion, and more. The workshop day will include a catered lunch and those interested must pre-register, they will allow only 30 participants to attend. Registration is $30 and you have to mail in your registration to Christi Forsythe at the UK Research and Education Center, 1205 Hopkinsville Street, Princeton. Registration must be in by March 5th. You can get the registration paperwork at the Extension Office.
