Steve Kukahiko, Director of the City County Park, was in studio Wednesday morning to talk to WPKY to talk about opening day at the pool and the park.
Steve first told listeners that the City County Pool will officially be opening Saturday, May 26th, but that there will be a Dollar Day on Friday, May 25th with admission a dollar for everyone. The pool will be open Mondays through Saturdays from 11AM to 5PM and on Sundays from 1:30 to 5PM. The pool will also have Night Swim on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 to 9PM. Admission to the pool is $5, Land Lovers get in for $2, and Night Swim is $3; ages one and under get in free. Steve then mentioned that the pool has season passes as well, they are $80 for a single and then Family Passes can be bought in addition to the single pass, add one person for $75, a second for $65, a third for $55, and any others for $40.
Steve then told listeners that he has 17 lifeguards on staff this year, 8 of which are new, the remaining nine are returning, as well as three supervisors. The lifeguards, who have their certification for 2 years, will be teaching swim lessons this summer as well. Classes are $70 for two weeks, Mondays through Thursdays, with Fridays as make-up days. There are two sessions, a morning session from 10 to 10:50AM and an afternoon session from 5 to 5:50PM. The first session is June 4th through 14th, the second is June 18th through 28th, and the last session is from July 2nd through 12th.
Steve also reminded listeners that the pool is available for swim parties all summer long. The pool can be rented for $150 that will include 2 and half hours of swim time. Parties can be scheduled on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from either 6 to 8:30PM or 8:30 to 11PM. Steve also mentioned that the pavilion is available for rent for $30 for three hours.
Steve then told listeners that on Father’s Day, June 17th, all fathers who come with their children will get in for free and also mentioned that throughout the summer they will have food drives and everyone who brings in canned food items or other non-perishable food items will get a discount on admission. He also stated that closer to the start of school in August they will have a school supply drive and all those who bring in school supplies will also get a discount on admission.
