Transportation Employees Compete for a Chance at the State Roadeo
From the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet – Madisonville
Equipment operators from the 11 counties of Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Distirct 2 gathered at the District 2 Equipment Maintenance Facility today for their annual Equipment & Safety Roadeo.
Operators are challenged to enhance their equipment and safety skills by a number of obstacle courses and competitive activities. The competition includes a motor grader course, a tractor/bush hog course, a truck and slow plow course, a backhoe challenge, and a video loader simulator.
More than 60 KYTC employees competed. There will be one more competition on Wednesday, the SEMI and lowboy obstacle course. Winners get more than bragging rights. They get to continue to the state competition at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington in June.
Last year a member of the Muhlenberg County Highway Crew won at the state level and went on to compete at Regional Roadeo.
By honing their equipment operating skills, transportation employees become more efficient in their daily work activities. The Roadeo has a big emphasis on safety awareness.
Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 2 headquartered in Madisonville is responsible for about 3300 miles of highway in 11 counties. The district has more miles of highway and more 4-lane miles than any other district in the state.
