Third District State Senator Whitney Westerfield is withdrawing from the Kentucky Attorney General race.
Westerfield, who represents Christian, Todd and Logan Counties in the Kentucky General Assembly, says he made the decision due to the time constraints placed on himself during the legislative session, as well as the time commitment required for a strong campaign.
Westerfield says he and his wife Amanda feel like this is the right decision for their family at this time.
Westerfield said will continue his work in the General Assembly and will not rule out another campaign in the future.
He adds there will be several qualified candidates in the race for Attorney General this year.
Westerfield says he has been overwhelmed by support he has received during the campaign, but this decision will hopefully give another qualified candidate the opportunity to run their campaign as it should be run. He adds Kentucky desperately needs an Attorney General that has the necessary experience to carry out the duties of office, and the integrity to do so without a political agenda.
Westerfield has served as the chairman of the Senate Standing Committee on Judiciary since his election in 2012.
