Caldwell County Schools are entering their third year of a program that provides free meals to all students for the entire year.
Will Brown, Food Services Director, says students receive the free breakfasts and lunches through the Community Eligibility Provision, a federal program based on Medicare and Medicaid numbers as well as households that qualify for SNAP assistance.
He adds that students receive meals that are healthy and balanced and follow certain federal guidelines.
Brown stresses that the program can only continue through the help of parents filling out the proper paperwork, noting that there is now a new form that replaces the previous free and reduced lunch forms.
He explains that the household information forms will be included in the back to school packets that will be sent home with students on the first day of school. Brown states that all information provided on the forms will be kept confidential.
The first day for all Caldwell County students will be Wednesday, August 14th.
