Madisonville Community College Announces New Programs to Up Enrollment

A regional educational institution is finally seeing an uptick in their numbers following several years of declines and is hoping recently announced opportunities will help them grow more.
According to the Madisonville Messenger, Dr. Jay Parrent, Vice President of Quality Assurance and Administration at Madisonville Community College and Princeton resident, says that over the past three years the college has seen an overall enrollment increase. He adds that different programs and initiatives have helped including the MCC Accelerate Program, and recently announced partnerships with four-year universities and other regional community colleges.
Dr. Parrent states that the inaugural MCC Accelerate program will meet one night a week, one class at a time, for five weeks at a time while still allowing students to graduate in two years, and was specifically designed to get adults to re-enroll in school. He expresses that even though employment is better, a lot of people still want to finish a degree or even need further education for career advancement.
Dr. Parrent also notes that the recently announced partnership with Bethel University gives MCC students another option to continue a baccalaureate degree with a four-year university. If a student from MCC graduates with an associate in arts, science, or applied science, Bethel will honor their associate as completion of Bethel’s general education requirements.
He adds that MCC will also now be offering their surgical technology program to the Hopkinsville area through the Hopkinsville Community College, which will be staffed by MCC faculty members, and will give an opportunity for those in the area to take advantage of the program, which has been nationally accredited since the 1980’s.
MCC will be holding late registration for the fall semester on Wednesday, August 14th, from 8AM to 6PM and Thursday and Friday, August 15th and 16th from 8AM to 4:30PM.
The fall semester is set to begin Monday at MCC.
