A local sheriff’s office has been awarded the 2019 Trooper Cameron Ponder Memorial Safety Grant.
According to a release the Spirit of Blue Foundation presented the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office with the grant on Tuesday that will help outfit the Sheriff and all deputies with lifesaving tourniquets inside of rugged duty belt cases. The grant, which amounts to $759.70, was funded in large part by a strategic partnership with Law Enforcement United along with contributions from North American Rescue and Eleven 10.

The release indicated that the memorial grant is awarded each year within Kentucky in memory of Kentucky State Police Trooper Cameron Ponder, who was killed in the line of duty on September 13, 2015 along a stretch of Interstate 24 that runs through Lyon County.
Lyon County Sheriff Brent White, who was with the KSP and was Trooper Ponder’s Lieutenant at the time of his death, stated that his office is humbled to receive the lifesaving equipment in memory of Trooper Ponder’s service. He added that deputies who wear the tourniquets will never forget the ultimate sacrifice Trooper Ponder paid in Lyon County.
Tourniquets, which are vital pieces of medical equipment that can be used in the event of traumatic injury to an extremity, can benefit both officers who may be injured or any other member of the community who may have experienced a similar type of injury.
