Even through it’s half-way through the school year a local feeding program is still hard at work providing food for children in need.
Joni Phelps, SNAP Assistant at the Caldwell County Extension Office, says that the Caldwell County Backpack Program “Feeding God’s Children” is a way to help children who may be food insecure during the school year.
She adds that it takes $120 to sponsor a child for a whole year and donations, monetary or food, are always greatly appreciated.
Phelps notes that even though there are currently 110 students enrolled in the program, if there is a child in need, enrollment stays open all year long.
She states that the program is able to help the over 100 children enrolled each year because of donations from the local community and expresses her extreme gratitude to those who have given throughout the past year.
For those who would like to the start off the new year in a giving spirit, the list of acceptable foods to donate can be picked up at the Extension Office or you could donate monetarily.
