Heavy rains that accompanied a bout of severe weather that moved through the area Monday night has caused some flooding in Princeton.
According to a post on social media Mayor Kota Young states that several streets are flooded and impassable, including both railroad underpasses on South Jefferson and Cadiz Streets and the intersection of West Market and North Cave Streets beside First Baptist Church. He adds that the Public Works Department and Princeton Police Department are working to put up barricades until the flood waters recede.
Caldwell County Magistrate District 4 Jeff Simms reports that a significant amount of water is pouring over the roadway on Hopkinsville Street just past the intersection with Cadiz Street.
All motorists are being advised to detour around streets with standing or rushing water. It only takes six inches of moving water to wash away a vehicle. Officials are reminding drivers to “turn around, don’t drown.”
Princeton Fire Chief Brent Francis has confirmed that two large cedar trees have fallen on a telephone wire on Highway 139 South at Rock Springs Hill that have the roadway blocked. Motorists are being advised to detour around this area until further notice.
