Governor Andy Beshear says there are currently 18 confirmed cases of Coronavirus in Kentucky, with three new cases confirmed Saturday afternoon.
Governor Beshear says the two additional cases were reported in Fayette County. He said those cases were expected and related to an existing case. Beshear also said there were fifteen negative tests reported across the state Saturday.
The Governor is recommending that childcare centers make plans to close within 72 hours if it were to become necessary. He says “while children remain at low risk, they can carry the virus and we must do everything we can to reduce it’s spread and protect the most vulnerable, including senior citizens”.
He added hospitals across the state should end elective procedures by Wednesday. Governor Beshear said “we need all the capacity we can to deal with the cases that we believe we are going to see. We are also going to work with them to give them flexibility to re-purpose a lot of their staff.”
Governor Beshear added one person that tested positive at U of L left against medical advice and returned to his home in Nelson County. The Lincoln Trail District Health Department asked the man to self-quarantine, but he refused. The Cabinet for Health and Family Services is working with the local county attorney and county judge to obtain an order to force him to quarantine in his home.
So far Covid-19 cases have been confirmed in Harrison, Fayette, Jefferson, Bourbon, Nelson and Montgomery Counties. The ages of the patients range from 27 to 80.
