Cave-In-Rock Ferry to Expect Delays Due to Motorcycle Rally

Motorists who may be planning to use the Cave-in-Rock Ferry this weekend to take advantage of the beautiful weather and visit Cave-in-Rock State Park, Garden of the Gods Recreation Area, or any of the other parks and wooded areas just on the other side of the Ohio River need to be aware delays are possible throughout this weekend due to a nearby motorcycle rally.
Kentucky Transportation Cabinet spokesman Keith Todd states heavy traffic will likely be generated by the Hog Rock Motorcycle Rally that is expected to attract more than 10,000 motorcycle enthusiasts to Cave-in-Rock, Illinois. He adds while delays are possible now through the weekend, traffic to and from the event site is most likely to create delays at the ferry on Friday and Sunday.
Todd notes the Cave-in-Rock Ferry normally averages about 500 vehicles per day, however, during the Hog Rock event, it can run three to four times that number and travelers are being advised to plan accordingly. Motorists should also be aware of increased motorcycles on the road across the entire region as attendees travel to and from the event.
The Cave-in-Rock Ferry connects KY Highway 91 North in Crittenden County with Illinois Route 1 in Hardin County, Illinois and is operated by an independent contractor with joint funding from the KYTC and Illinois Department of Transportation through a ferry authority.
