The George Coon Public Library is encouraging families to determine a Fire Escape Plan in recognition of National Fire Prevention Week.
Library Director Nichelle Faughn says it is super important to have the discussion in your home about what you would do in case of a fire. She adds just like practicing in sports, having a Fire Escape Plan is a discussed and practiced effort that includes creating a plan and training how to react.
Faughn states if the unfortunate event of a fire were to happen it is understandable to be in shock but, if you have already discussed that panic and how to handle it in a fire, you will be more likely to recall your plan of how to get out and where to go.
She notes officials at the library want families to be able to practice planning these family discussions and escape routes and explains they have worksheets available at the library that include helpful discussion points and grids to practice making your plan.
Faughn says they also have a limited amount of smoke detectors if you, or someone you know may be in need of one. There is a limit of one per person and smoke detectors can be reserved by calling the library at 270-365-2884.
