Brood X Expected Within the Week

After 17 years, the return of Brood X Cicadas could emerge any day now.
Agriculture Agent Shane Bogle with The Caldwell County Extension Office says this brood looks very different.

Not only do they look different, but Bogle says even though only half of them actually make noise, due to the sheer number, the result will be loud.

Although they may look menacing, Bogle assured us they are not harmful to humans and pets, although, we do need to keep an eye on how many our pets eat.

Bogle warned, the cicada can damage, and even kill trees in more than one way.

He added, Cicadas do have their favorites amongst trees, and suggests not even bothering to attempt to spray or dust.

Bogle says there is, however, an opportunity for the kids to watch as the ground becomes covered in tunnels.
