Princeton Water and Wastewater completed line upgrades along Main Street this week and now the city is ready for paving to begin next month.
City Councilwoman Pat George, who is a member of the Water Commission, provided an update about the project at the City Council meeting this week. She said that Princeton Water and Wastewater completed its project on Main Street on Monday and 54 service lines had been upgraded from lead pipe to HDPE pipe. In addition, George said two new fire hydrants were installed on Main Street — one at 906 Main Street and the other hydrant is at Centennial Drive by the Ideal convenience store.
Princeton Water and Wasterwater Superintendent James Noel tells the News Edge they started the project in February of last year. He says it was important for the water lines to be upgraded in order to remove the lead from the system. However, he adds even though the service lines have been upgraded, there is still an old cast iron water main under Main Street that could cause a problem in the future.
