A well-known community leader, former educator, and Vietnam veteran was laid to rest Monday morning.
74-year old Daniel “Danny” Beavers died Thursday at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville.
Beavers was born in Marion and grew up in Fredonia and Princeton, according to his obituary. He graduated from Caldwell County High School in 1965 and went on to attend college at Western Kentucky University and Murray State University. Following college, he joined the U.S. Army and served in Vietnam with the 101st Airborne Division, Battery B, 321st Field Artillery Regiment.
After returning to Caldwell County, Beavers reportedly worked as an editor and photographer for the local newspaper before beginning a teaching career at Caldwell County schools until he retired in 2006. However, Beavers returned in 2007 to serve as an assistant principal. He also coached the Tigers baseball team from 1990-1999, reportedly leading the 1991 regional championship team and leading the team to its first 20-win season. He was active in local youth sports and volunteered with Youth, Inc. for more than three decades.
Beavers was elected to serve on Princeton City Council in 1990, and in 1999 was appointed to serve as mayor through 2002. He was elected to his second term in November 2014 and served from January 1, 2015 through December 31, 2019.
Beavers is survived by his wife of 49-years Cathy, along with two sons and four grandchildren.
He was laid to rest Monday morning with full military honors at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West in Hopkinsville.
