
Caldwell County Jailer Jon Pettit has joined what is becoming a crowded field for next year’s sheriff’s election.
Pettit tells the News Edge he has been the jailer in Caldwell County for over a decade and has previous law enforcement experience.
click to download audioHe started his law enforcement career in 1989 as an auxiliary police officer and graduated from the Department of Criminal Justice Training in 1997.
Pettit says one of his goals if elected sheriff is for the department to be more community-oriented and proactive.

Pettit says he will be filing on the Democratic ticket but he is running as an American because he feels in today’s political climate too much emphasis is placed on party affiliation.

Pettit was elected as a Democrat and is expected to face some opposition in the 2022 May primary election with three other people announcing an intent to run for sheriff ahead of next week’s start of the election filing season.
