
With only one day in the ‘red’ on the state’s COVID-19 incidence rate map since November 8, Caldwell County Schools will be taking a close look at its mask mandate for students and staff in the coming days.
At Monday’s school board meeting, Superintendent Jeremy Roach said 19 students were in contact quarantine and three were positive for COVID. Caldwell County has been an ‘orange’ county every day in November except for November 8th with Roach telling the board it may be time to revisit the district’s mask mandate

click to download audioThe state introduced an incidence rate map in September of 2020 that takes the average number of new cases over a seven-day period and normalizes it per 100,000 population. A seven-day average of 25 or more cases means the county is labeled a ‘red’ county or critical for outbreak purposes. Caldwell County had an incidence rate of 19.1 on Tuesday, which labeled it an ‘orange’ county.
