During a 5:00 p.m. update on WPKY Tuesday, Princeton Mayor Kota Young said that progress continues in the cleanup of the neighborhoods impacted by the tornado with the construction of the landfill on track to be completed Wednesday.
Young added that while the vast majority of the contractors have been working on the landfill Tuesday, some of the contractors were cleaning up the right-of-ways. He said it’s satisfying to see the piles of debris because it’s a sight of achievement.
The landfill is being built at the Country Club on the golf course, which he said will help speed up the recovery process and it’s cost-efficient.
The mayor also reminds residents the FEMA Recovery Center has representatives on hand at the Butler Gymnasium to help individuals through the process of applying for assistance. Young said if you have any damage whatsoever FEMA is not a waste of time.
Mayor Young also said once you have applied with FEMA and you have homeowners insurance — more likely than not — you will get a denial letter but that doesn’t end the process.
He strongly encourages residents who suffered storm damages to take advantage of the opportunity while FEMA is in the community.
Mayor Young is providing daily updates around 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on WPKY.
