Dawson Springs Independent School District Superintendent Lenny Whalen is asking parents in the district to fill out an online survey to help them continue planning for students to return to school on January 18th. He says the survey is open to every school student family in the district. To access the survey, click here.
Whalen says as they attempt to recover from the devastating tornado that went through Dawson Springs on December 10th, they are looking forward to welcoming students back into school. Whalen says he is hopeful that all the district’s students will be able to return to school, which he believes is the best place for them to heal.
Whalen says in the event that students are displaced and not living in Dawson Springs if at all possible, the school district will attempt to help provide transportation and any other resources they may need. Parents can contact the office at the school their child attends at (270) 797-3811.
In addition, Whalen says their Family Resource/Youth Service Center is also available with multiple resources to help families who may need it. He indicates they have clothing, food, toiletries, and other potential monetary resources to help families need.
According to Whalen, in the coming weeks, they will be working on a number of things at the local and state level. He says they are going to attempt to get their required academic time in as reflected in the district’s original school calendar without “tacking days on” to the end of the school year with makeup days. He points out this may require the district to add minutes to the school day when they return on January 18th. Whalen says if this is the course they take, schools may start a few minutes earlier than normal with some time added on to the end of the school day.
