Caldwell County Ballot Drawings For May 17 Primary Election


The drawing for ballot positions for the May primary election in Caldwell County was held Thursday afternoon at the courthouse in downtown Princeton.
County Clerk Toni Watson tells WPKY there will only be one Democratic primary locally in May which is the race for sheriff. However, she adds there will be several Republican primary races including sheriff, county clerk, coroner, jailer, and magistrates.
Watson gave the ballot drawing for the only Democratic primary on the May ballot which will be for sheriff.

The Republican drawing for the May primary included several candidates for sheriff.

Watson said the drawing for county clerk positions on the ballot are: Jenny Phelps Clark is number one, Jennifer Watson Hale is number two, and number three is Christina Thompson.
For coroner, DeWayne Trafford is number one on the ballot and Kevin Lane is number two.
William H. Harper is number one on the jailer’s Republican ballot, Joe Don Doom is number two and number three is Douglas Martin. Watson notes one of these three candidates for jailer will face the lone Democratic candidate Cheryl Pettit in the November general election.
The ballot positions for District 1 magistrate include: Number one incumbent Elbert Bennett, number 2 is Mara Jan Vied, and Donald “Donnie” Conway is number 3.
The District 2 positions on the ballot are as follows: Shirley Boyd Gray is number one, Clyde Ortt is number two and incumbent Jeff Boone is number three.
For District 3, Jennifer Choate is number one on the ballot and incumbent Brent Stallins is number two.
In District 4 ballot, incumbent Jeff Simms is number one on the ballot, Trent Burton is number two and Chase Peyton Mitchell is number three.
In addition, several candidates who have filed for local races are uncontested and will be on the November ballot, including the race for judge-executive.

She added there will not be any constable races on the primary ballot that will be on the November ballot.

The primary election will be held on Tuesday, May 17. The general election will be held on Tuesday, November 8.
