Lyon County Awarded Funding Through Cleaner Water Program

Lyon County has been awarded $100,507 as part of the Cleaner Water Program to deliver clean drinking water and improve sewer and water systems.
Governor Andy Beshear announced Friday that more than $3.8 million has been awarded to four cities and three water utilities in Lyon, Marshall and McCracken counties from the Better Kentucky Plan’s $250 million Cleaner Water Program. He said the program is expected to create approximately 3,800 jobs across the state.
Lyon County Water District Vice Chairman Charles Murphy said they are appreciative of this special funding. He said they have a list of projects ready, which include the extension of adequately sized main lines in some of the county’s underserved areas. He added they have planned the continuance of several dead-end lines to improve the flow, pressure, and quality to their customers in those areas. Also, he said the water district plans include over 2,500 of new mainline to replace weak and inadequate pipes, and they will be able to do all of these projects with their own staff and equipment without having to employ the use of outside contractors. He expressed his gratitude to the members of the Lyon County Water District board of directors.
According to the governor’s office, the City of Eddyville will invest the funds to construct, replace or refurbish sewer lines throughout the system, repair 195 manholes, and more to reduce inflow and infiltration points into Eddyville’s sewer collection system. The project would replace an outdated lift station at the Industrial Park on US 62 East.
Governor Beshear said a total of $60 million has been awarded to grantees through the Clean Water Program to fund transformative projects since the call for projects was announced on June 1, 2021.
