City Council Approves Budget Amendment For Ice Storm Damage


Princeton City Council approved a budget amendment on the first reading creating a $250,000 fund to respond to the damage created by last week’s ice storm.

During Monday night’s meeting, Mayor Kota Young said the city is in a very strong financial position which has allowed the city to respond to the tornado disaster in December and the ice storm.

City Council also authorized the mayor to advertise for bids for the ice storm cleanup process, which the mayor added he would like individual and joint options.


click to download audioMayor Young also announced the city will be doing curbside pick up of tree debris and limbs from the ice storm. He noted pick up of the vegetation will begin Monday, February 21.


click to download audioHe added they are building a new burn site at the Industrial Park on Park Avenue after getting authorization to use the property from the local Industrial Development Authority during a special called meeting Monday afternoon.


click to download audioIn addition, Mayor Young said that residents may also burn limbs at their residence. He noted any at-home fires need to be kept at a manageable size, removed from any structures, and with awareness of how smoke may affect your neighbors.

Mayor Young also reminded anyone with damages from the December tornado that the application deadline for FEMA is Friday and the deadline to apply with the Small Business Administration is Thursday.


click to download audioIn other action, council members adopted a resolution authorizing the execution of a financing agreement with Planters Bank for capital projects for the purchase of a fire truck and police department renovation, which Mayor Young noted was needed for the bank’s records to release the funds to the city.
