U.S. 60/U.S. 641 Traffic Signal Resumes Operation In Marion

Kentucky Transportation Cabinet officials announced Wednesday the traffic signal at the U.S. 60/U.S. 641 intersection in Marion has resumed operation after functioning as a 4-way Stop to allow engineers to conduct a study of peak traffic flow.
District 1 spokesman Keith Todd says plans called for the intersection to be converted to a 4-Way Stop for approximately two weeks to allow the study, but it remained in place longer than expected as adverse weather conditions hampered observation efforts.
According to Todd, approximately 8,200 vehicles travel through this intersection in an average day. He says a pole that supports the existing traffic signal at the intersection has been hit by trucks turning from time to time, and engineers have been looking into various options to provide a better turn radius for trucks while enhancing traffic flow.
Todd says in the coming weeks, traffic engineers from the KYTC District 1 Traffic Group and the agency’s central office will comb through data gleaned from the traffic flow observations at various times of the day to determine if the traffic signal should be upgraded or replaced by a 4-Way Stop.
The intersection at U.S. 60 in Crittenden County is just south of the downtown area in Marion at the intersection of Gum Street and South Main.
