Police say a man previously convicted in October 2020 for burglarizing a business in Providence was arrested a second time for breaking into the same business over the weekend.
Providence Police Sergeant Carl Scheer was called to Mark Hudson’s Garage on Maple Street on Sunday in reference to a burglary. After reviewing camera footage and evidence at the scene, Sgt. Scheer was able to identify 30-year old Kenzel Copeland as a suspect.
Around 7:00 that night, Sgt. Scheer, Officers Jay Riley Edwards and Eric Elder, and Webster County Sheriff’s Deputy John Thompson executed a search warrant at Copeland’s residence located at 605 Princeton Street in Providence. Inside the residence, police said they found Copeland and recovered clothing worn by Copeland and a hammer believed to have been used to break into the garage.
Copeland was taken into custody and charged with third-degree burglary, theft by unlawful taking and third-degree criminal mischief.
According to Providence Police, Copeland was sentenced to 3 years in October 2020 for crimes relating to burglarizing the same garage. On January 13, 2021, he was reportedly released from jail and ultimately returned to Providence.
Police also said Copeland’s criminal history includes convictions for assault, wanton endangerment, promoting contraband, resisting arrest, burglary, criminal mischief and trafficking drugs.
