The next elected mayor of Princeton will be filling a full-time position after action by city council at Monday night’s meeting.
Princeton City Council unanimously approved an ordinance on second reading making the mayor’s position a full-time, executive position whose principal function is to oversee management of the city’s daily affairs.
In addition, the city council unanimously approved an ordinance on the second reading that establishes the annual salary of the mayor at $42,500 starting January 1, 2023, effective January 1, 2023.
Councilwoman Sheila Gates said she had received some positive feedback from members of the community regarding making the mayor’s position full-time.

During committee reports, Councilman Jim Joiner provided an update from the Caldwell-Princeton Airport Board. He said the new beacon light — paid for by the state — will be installed in the near future with the bid awarded to Timmons Electric.
