A father and son have been charged with trafficking meth as part of a two-day drug round-up in Lyon County.
Lyon County Sheriff Brent White reports shortly before 3:20 Tuesday afternoon Chief Deputy Sam Adams, Deputy Joe Witherspoon, and members of the Western Kentucky Violent Crimes Task Force conducted surveillance near Kuttawa. He says 43-year old Michael Reed, of Kuttawa, was located and taken into custody on sealed indictment warrants from Lyon Circuit Court in connection to cases investigated by the sheriff’s office and task force.
On Wednesday, Sheriff White reports Reed’s son, 18-year old Jason S. Reed, of Kuttawa, was arrested by Chief Deputy Sam Adams on sealed indictments from Lyon Circuit Court as a result of the same drug investigation.
Michael Reed was charged with two counts of first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, 2nd or greater offense over 2 grams of meth by complicity, and Jason Reed was charged with two counts of first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance greater than 2 grams of meth, 1st offense.
Sheriff White says in December 2021 and January of 2022, the men sold in excess of 60 grams of meth in Kuttawa on two occasions during an undercover investigation. The meth was seized by deputies and task force agents.
Michael Reed was also charged with trafficking marijuana less than 8 ounces – 2nd or subsequent offense, and possession of drug paraphernalia after he was reportedly found in possession of multiple individual baggies of marijuana, digital scales, and other trafficking paraphernalia when he was taken into custody.
At the time of Michael Reed’s arrest, the sheriff says he was out on bond for three separate trafficking controlled substance cases stemming from different investigations in 2019, 2020, and 2021. On Wednesday, deputies served Michael Reed with three probation violation warrants for violating his bond conditions.
Both men were lodged in the Crittenden County Jail. Michael Reed is currently being held with no bond, pending a revocation hearing in Lyon Circuit Court.
