Caldwell Grand Jury Returns Indictments On Assault, Criminal Mischief Charges


The Caldwell County Grand Jury returned several felony indictments from the June 3 session including charges of possessing a firearm by a convicted felon, tampering with physical evidence, criminal mischief and assault.
27-year old Ashley Renee Truesdell of Princeton was indicted on charges of second-degree disorderly conduct, two counts of third-degree assault, DUI – 1st offense, and resisting arrest. The charges stem from February 10, 2022, when Princeton Police responded to a possible drug overdose in the area of the 500 block of West Young Street and found Truesdell unconscious in the driver seat with the vehicle still in gear. After she was checked out by Caldwell County EMS and officers, Truesdell was arrested for being under the influence of intoxicants and taken to the hospital where police said she started cursing hospital staff. She also reportedly started kicking officers and resisting arrest as she was taken into custody.
A true bill was returned on 38-year old Steven McKenzie of Princeton on a charge of first-degree criminal mischief. According to a report, the criminal mischief charge stems from a Princeton Police Department investigation on January 23 when officers responded to a complaint at the American Inn on US 62 West and found that McKenzie had gained entry into a pickup truck in the parking lot and caused over $1,000 in damage. Police said they were able to identify McKenzie due to a backpack that he left behind with his identification inside it.
26-year old Jennis Edward Shelton of Princeton was indicted on charges of second-degree assault and first-degree criminal mischief. The indictment alleges Shelton caused physical injury to a male victim by means of a dangerous instrument and intentionally caused damage of $1,000 to his property on January 30, 2022.
37-year old Raymond B. Derry of Metropolis, Illinois was indicted for theft of a motor vehicle registration plate, renewal decal. The indictment alleges on December 7, 2019, that Derry stole a motor vehicle registration plate. No other details have been released.
35-year old Casey Allen Bennett of Princeton and 48-year old John Halterman of Princeton were both indicted in separate incidents for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Bennett’s charge stems from November 20, 2021, and Halterman’s charge is from December 31, 2021. No other details about the cases were released.
