Caldwell County Sportsman Club Gives Back to Community

You may know of the Caldwell County Sportsman Club from their Jones Keeney shooting range, but they have been serving their community in many different ways for 54 years.
The Sportsman Club is a non-profit organization that sponsors youth and promotes shooting sports.
After losing founding member Robert Earl, the club created a scholarship fund in his honor. Club President and Caldwell County constable Adam Cruzen says the scholarship will allow at least one child to go to Camp John Currie every year, where they will be able to be educated in a variety of outdoor activities.

The Sportsman club’s Jones Keeney range is used for various shooting sports, including archery. Walmart recently gave the Sportsman club a grant for archery targets everyone in the community can use. The range is often used by local 4-H clubs, and surrounding counties that don’t have a 4-H will begin using the Jones Keeney range as well.
The club will be holding a silent auction June 18. The morning of the auction, they will host a pancake breakfast. The breakfast is open to anyone and admission is by donation. It will be from 7 am-12 pm and the silent auction will close at 6 pm, both at the Caldwell County Extension Office.
The club aims to raise money for 3D targets, which will be used in an organized shoot later in July.
Cruzen adds the Sportsman Club is always looking for new members, and everything the club does goes back to the community.

Due to tornado damage to the surrounding wooded area, the range is limited to club events and remains closed to the public. However, club events are open to everyone in the community. The club is rehabilitating the range with the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife, and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service says the range will be reopened. Cruzen is hoping that the shooting range will be open in time for deer season.
Upcoming events include a five-bird race June 11 and a wobble trap shoot June 19. Cruzen encourages people interested to register for the event on Facebook.
