Dawson Springs Mourns Loss of Beloved Retired Army Veteran

The Dawson Springs community is mourning the loss of a well-known, beloved retired Army veteran and community member, 99-year-old Dudley Riley.
Beshear Funeral Home in Dawson Springs announced Riley passed away Monday at the Western Kentucky Veterans Center in Hanson. He was born on August 11, 1922 to the late Same Riley and Minnie Menser Riley.
According to the obituary, Riley began working at the VA Hospital at Outwood near Dawson Springs and expanded his career as an administrator for veteran’s hospitals in several locations in the United States before retiring. Riley served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II and served one year as a Prisoner of War in Germany. In addition, he served as the U.S. POW President for several years during his lifetime. Riley was also a member of the Dawson Springs First Baptist Church.
A bridge on KY 109 in Dawson Springs is named in Riley’s honor.
He’s survived by his wife, Ruth Riley of Dawson Springs, and two daughters and two sons.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 Saturday afternoon at Beshear Funeral Home in Dawson Springs. Visitation will begin at noon Saturday.
