Caldwell Among Lowest May Jobless Rates in the State

The unemployment rate in the nine-county Pennyrile region ticked up slightly in May compared to April but showed a seven-tenths of a percent decline from May of last year.
Caldwell County’s May unemployment rate was 3.1% compared to 2.9% in April and 3.9% in May of 2021. Caldwell’s jobless rate is second-lowest in the Pennyrile and among the 20 lowest in the state.
The estimates from the Kentucky Center for Statistics show Caldwell County with a labor force of 5,983 people, which is an increase of 73 people from May of last year.
The numbers show 187 people actively seeking work in May compared to 228 a year ago.
In Lyon County, the May jobless rate was 3.5%, the same as April and down a half-percent from May of last year.
The estimates show Lyon with a civilian labor force of 3,100 people, nearly identical to a year ago. The numbers show 110 people actively seeking work in May compared to 125 a year ago.
Statewide, unemployment rates rose in nine Kentucky counties in May, fell in 107 counties, and stayed the same in four counties between May of last year and this year.
Woodford County and Cumberland County recorded the lowest jobless rate in the state at 2.6%. Todd County had the 10th lowest in the state.
Magoffin County recorded the state’s highest unemployment rate at 10.9%. It was followed by 10 eastern Kentucky counties — all over 6.2%.
