Domke Stresses Localism on the Lakes

Holidays like Memorial Day and July 4th give local businesses on the lakes a chance to show off the services they provide and bring in local clientele in addition to the tourists that flock to the area.
With several businesses sponsoring fireworks shows across the lakes region, Deb Domke with the Lake Barkley Chamber of Commerce says it’s just another way those local businesses support the community. And that’s why it’s important for the locals to reciprocate.

Many locally-owned restaurants, shops, and stores had to reinvent business plans just to stay open during the COVID-19 pandemic. Then came tornados last year. Domke says one business affected by both — Holiday Hills Resort in Lyon County — is a prime example of how local businesses that relied on tourists in the past are trying to attract a local customer base.
