Fifteen Caldwell County FFA Chapter members, 2 Advisors and 3 guests participated in the FFA Leadership Training Center week-long camp last week.
Each day campers were divided up into different groups depending on their office to receive specific training in how to carry out their responsibilities for the upcoming year. They also attended special interest classes to learn more about different subjects. Also each day the chapter met together as a group to discuss and make plans for the upcoming year. There were sports competitions where campers were teamed up with other campers and at times competed together as a chapter. They also entered the talent contest.
Some of the campers shared their experiences at camp including Chapter President Laken White. She said this was her second year attending the camp and it was very different than last year with more FFA Chapters and kids. White said she had a lot of fun at the camp.
click to download audioThis year, White noted, she would love to see the Caldwell County FFA Chapter be more involved in the community. She was also selected to serve on the Camp Counsel which is a high honor during the week.
Keegan Miller, who is the chairman of the strengthening agriculture committee, was not able to attend camp but is excited about the upcoming year.
click to download audioLaney Jones, the Chapter Sentinel, was honored with the leadership award for the week, with only the top 30 percent of campers receiving this award. She said this was her first year at FFA camp and it was exciting meeting new people and learning more about the FFA Chapters.

click to download audioAdvisor Parker Jennings said there were a lot of first-time campers with the group this year and it was exciting to work with them and see them getting involved.
Advisor Magen Woods added that this was the first time they had been together as a group since the passing of Ag Teacher Wes York. She said during their time together as a chapter they had a Pit & Peek session where they shared their thoughts and memories of past camps and Wes. She said they cried and laughed together too, but there were a lot of good tears shed. She noted even with the high temperatures that no one complained. She added that they have an awesome year planned and they are looking forward to it.
The Kentucky FFA Leadership Training Center camp was held in Hardinsburg, July 4 – 8.
