Traffic is back to normal on U.S. 60 East between Marion and Sturgis after officials reported a National Guard bulk water truck crashed Wednesday morning.
Shortly before 11:30 a.m., District 1 spokesman Keith Todd of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet reported a water truck had crashed immediately east of the rock quarry and the KY 365 intersection between the Mattoon community in Crittenden County and the Sullivan community in Union County. Todd said US 60 East was restricted to one lane and motorists traveling eastbound from Marion to Sullivan detoured to KY 365 to reduce traffic at the crash site.
According to Todd, they closed the road when a military tow truck from the Wendell Ford Training Center near Greenville arrived at the crash site to remove the truck.
The crash site was cleared and all lanes were reopened shortly after 5:00 p.m.
This is the second crash involving a National Guard water truck in less than a month. On June 26, the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office reported a National Guard water truck ran off KY 902 West near Kuttawa and overturned. Two National Guardsmen inside the truck were reportedly taken by ambulance to Lourdes Hospital in Paducah for non-life threatening injuries.
It’s unknown at this time how many occupants were in the water truck that crashed Wednesday morning or if there were any injuries.
