The Governor’s School for the Arts was home to four Caldwell County High students this summer.
These students spent 3 weeks away at a Kentucky university with each site focusing on a specific field. High school students are selected and sent to various universities to undergo training in their chosen area.
Kelly James is the 17-year old daughter of Doug James. She attended the program with the focus on instrumental music with 9 different classes. Her time was divided between study time and actual classes in music.
click to download audioMary Randall is the 17-year old daughter of Stephanie & Matt Randall. Her focus was on entrepreneurship and the studies were divided under the direction of the University of Kentucky and the University of Louisville and concentrated on team time.
click to download audioClara Ortt is the 17-year old daughter of Amanda & Jeremy Ortt. Her study times were divided up into 3 classes: elective, fine arts and speaking & physical art seminar. The seminar class was a group discussion on the topics presented to them. Ortt shared that on top of the amazing experience she gained college credits from the program.

Each of these students plans on furthering their education after high school and said their time at GSA helped them prepare for their future.
James has plans to attend college and major in music education or performance but is undecided on a university at this time.
Randall plans to attend the Northern Kentucky University or University of Louisville and major in English language and liberal arts.
Ortt is planning on attending Eastern Kentucky University and majoring in Forensic Science.
