A Providence man was arrested last week on multiple charges including theft of a motorcycle from Caldwell County.
After receiving a complaint of someone on a motorcycle trespassing on private property around 6:15 Friday evening, Providence Police Officer Eric Elder said he located 52-year old Gregory Baker operating the motorcycle described without any tags and conducted a traffic stop. He said a check of the motorcycle’s identification number revealed that the vehicle had been reported stolen from Caldwell County.
During a search of Baker, Officer Elder reportedly found and seized a quantity of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Baker was taken into custody and transported to the Webster County Jail where he was searched by jail staff and warned that any contraband found on him would result in additional charges. Police said jail staff then observed Baker reaching into his pants and passing contraband to another inmate, 20-year old Michael Lee Hancock of Slaughters.
Baker was charged with receiving stolen property, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, second-degree criminal trespassing, first-degree promoting contraband, trafficking marijuana and first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance 2nd offense (methamphetamine). He was lodged in the Webster County Jail.
According to police, Hancock, who was incarcerated for failure to appear, now faces additional charges of promoting contraband, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
