Caldwell County Fiscal Court approved a one-year contract for the new community emergency alert system and a motion to advertise for bids for three new weather sirens.
Magistrates approved a contract with Hyper-Reach from October 1, 2022, to September 30, 2023. Caldwell County Emergency Management Director Joey McCaslin is encouraging the community to sign up now for the emergency notifications as the county’s contract with CodeRed ends this weekend.

He noted they over 6,000 phone numbers signed up for CodeRed with less than 550 phone numbers registered with Hyper-Reach so far with Magistrate Jeff Simms reminding residents to sign up.

In other business, McCaslin said they are getting close to the final approval of a grant through the American Red Cross for the purchase of three sirens with an estimated price tag of $81,000 and a 20-percent match from the county.

In other action, magistrates also approved an 80/20 bridge resolution that Judge-Executive Larry Curling said was to replace a large tile on Old Fredonia Road.
click to download audioIn addition, magistrates approved an encroachment agreement with the Emergency Watershed Protection (EWP). Judge Curling explained the county has received approximately $250,000 to clean out creeks in large areas.
click to download audioHe added that a special called meeting will be held at 8:00 Wednesday morning to approve one of the bids received for the project.
During reports from county departments, Jailer Jon Pettit announced he is retiring and his last day will be Friday after serving 22 years with the county and seven years with the city.
