Princeton Fire Department Sees Increase In Structure Fires In August

The Princeton Fire Department was busy in August, according to the August 2022 Activity Report recently presented to Princeton City Council.
The August activity report shows firefighters responded to five structure fires last month, compared to no structure fires reported in July. The structure fires included a house fire on Cummins Road, an air conditioner that had shorted out in a home on East Locust Street, a porch fire at a house located at the corner of Garrett and Mechanic streets, a clothes dryer fire at Highland Homes on Stevens Avenue, and an old building and woods that were on fire on Lisanby Point Road.
Firefighters also responded to a mulch fire that was smoldering around a tree at the Child Services Office on MicBeth Drive, a dumpster fire behind Dollar Tree on US Highway 62 West, a hayfield on fire in the 11700 block of KY Highway 70, and two vehicle fires. The vehicle fires involved a motor home fully involved on Jackson Road and a fire under the hood of a vehicle in the Walmart parking lot.
The fire department worked ten motor vehicle accidents in August, up two from July. Two of the wrecks required firefighters to extricate the victims from vehicles.
The monthly activity report shows firefighters also responded to two hazardous situations — one in which a vehicle struck a natural gas meter on South Jefferson Street and the second was an electric transformer on fire on North Donnivan Street.
Firefighters responded to two false alarms in August and provided mutual aid for three hours to the Dawson Springs Fire Department with a structure fire in the 200 block of Franklin Street in Dawson.
