Special Veterans Salute Held Sunday (w/PHOTOS)


The Fine Arts Center at Caldwell County High School was the home for a special Veterans Salute on Sunday afternoon.
Over 300 local residents came together to honor and show appreciation for those Veterans attending for their service to our Country.
Phillip VanHooser organized the event and shared his goal for the day.


click to download audioThe featured speaker was retired Captain Charlie Plumb who was held for 2103 days as a Vietnam prisoner of war. Captain Plumb was in the first class to graduate from the pilot training known as the “Top Gun” program He accomplished 74 successful missions and was shot down in combat on his 75th mission. He parachuted down into enemy territory and was taken prisoner where he was held in a 8 X 8 cell. His program included the time he spent in captivity and compared it to other events in life.
When asked what he would convey to the people of Princeton if given the chance he responded.


click to download audioPlumb added that the survivors had overcome their time in captivity and returned to successful lives. They continue to serve the Nation and Communities where they returned to live. He shared his key to survival during his time being held captive.


click to download audioThe program included the presentation of colors, singing of the National Anthem, pledge to the American Flag and recognition of those Veterans present, and remembrance of former Veterans.
